A California State Parks historic site: a gold-mining ghost town preserved in a state of “arrested decay.” It sits 13 miles east of US-395 on Bodie Road, seven miles south of Bridgeport. The last 3 miles are unpaved and can be rough. Visitors can walk the empty streets, look into buildings still stocked with goods, and browse the museum and its bookstore, where daily tours can be asked about. The park has parking, restrooms, drinking water, picnic areas and interpretive exhibits. Dogs are welcome on a leash outside the historic buildings. There is no food or gas in the park. Events include outdoor and nature programs such as a Pika Expert Q&A.
