The School of Lost Borders is a Big Pine nonprofit that has offered wilderness rites-of-passage work since 1981. Operating largely in the Inyo Mountains and Owens Valley (Payahuunadu), it guides vision fasts, ceremonies, and trainings that mark life transitions and prepare participants to lead rites of passage in their own communities. Programs are typically multi-day, residential, and offered on a sliding-scale tuition basis. Note: most offerings are immersive backcountry retreats rather than public drop-in events.
