A trailhead on Convict Lake Road, south of Mammoth Lakes in Inyo National Forest, where the easy Convict Lake Loop begins. The loop runs about 3 miles around the lake with views of Laurel Mountain. The Convict Creek Trail also starts nearby and climbs into the John Muir Wilderness. Picnic tables and barbecue grills are at one end of the loop. There is no fee, and dogs must be leashed. Horses and pack animals are allowed, and there is no drinking water at the site. The south side of the lake can be icy in winter, so take care. Guided outings sometimes start here, such as a free geology walk with Friends of the Inyo.
