COSA

The Conservation Open Space Area (COSA) is a 25-acre wetland and wildlife refuge on the Bishop Paiute Reservation, accessible from behind the Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center at 2300 West Line Street and also from the BLM/Forest Service building at 351 Pacu Lane. The COSA features a one-mile walking path through riparian habitat, native plant communities, and open meadow. It is home to a wide variety of bird species and hosts monthly bird walks led by the Eastern Sierra Bird Alliance on the second Saturday of each month. The Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Environmental Management Office manages the space and runs outdoor education programs, native plant interpretation guides, and monthly Friends of the COSA volunteer stewardship events. The trail is open to the public during daylight hours.
