A public trailhead managed by the Inyo National Forest, located at the north end of Silver Lake along Highway 158 (the June Lake Loop). It is the starting point for the Rush Creek Trail, which climbs steeply up Rush Creek Canyon toward Agnew and Gem Lakes before connecting with the John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest Trail in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Day hikes and overnight backpacking trips both begin here; wilderness permits are required for overnight travel above the trailhead. Pit toilets and parking are on site. The Frontier Pack Station is also at the trailhead, offering horse and mule trips ranging from local day rides to extended wilderness pack trips.
