Volunteer Backcountry Work Week: Little Whitney Meadow Wilderness Fence Removal

Join Friends of the Inyo and the Inyo National Forest for a backcountry volunteer trip in the White Mountains, July 23-27, 2026. THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL — email izzy@friendsoftheinyo.org with “Whitney Fence Removal Project” in the subject to join the waitlist. Volunteers hike 15 miles into the Golden Trout Wilderness and camp 3 nights along Golden Trout Creek, working two and a half days dismantling obsolete barbed wire fencing and repairing trail infrastructure in Little Whitney Meadow. Physically demanding work in a remote setting; camp gear and tools packed in by USFS mules. Volunteers meet at the Cottonwood Pass Trailhead at the end of Horseshoe Meadows Road on the morning of July 23.
