A nonprofit law firm that gives free or low-cost legal help to Native American individuals and tribes across California. Its Bishop office serves the Eastern Sierra, including Inyo and Mono Counties. Help covers federal Indian law and areas such as Indian Child Welfare, housing, land rights, cultural resource protection, probate and public benefits. It also runs a project to help Native veterans seek a discharge upgrade. The office puts on community workshops at the Eastern Sierra Business Resource Center, including a Know Your Rights session for mobilehome owners and an estate planning workshop. It also offers community education and outreach, and can point people to other legal resources when a case falls outside its specialties.
