Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO)

A radio astronomy research site near Big Pine, on the east side of the Sierra Nevada, run by the Astronomy Department of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Scientists there do research in radio astronomy and astrophysics, build radio instruments, and train radio astronomers. It also reaches out to the public. An open house at the observatory is aimed at kids and families. A fall lecture series at the Cerro Coso Community College Bishop campus brings in professional researchers to talk about astronomy for community members curious about science.
