Free Backcountry Cooking Class with Kelly Kate & the Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA) @ Horseshoe Meadow Day Use Area

Join backcountry cook Kelly Kate and the Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA) for a free weekend cooking course at Horseshoe Meadow in the Eastern Sierra. This hands-on class is designed to train volunteers interested in cooking for PCTA trail projects, covering camp cooking for a variety of project styles: car camping, backpacking, pack-supported backcountry, and group events. Topics include menu planning, cooking equipment, recipes, food storage, camp set-up, sanitation, wilderness ethics in the kitchen, clean-up, and tips and tricks. No experience necessary. The group meets Friday, September 18 at 3 PM at the Horseshoe Meadow Day Use area and wraps up Sunday, September 20 at 11 AM. Participants will camp at the free Forest Service day-use location — bring your own sleeping equipment, camp chair, work boots (required for safety), and a coffee mug.
