Forced March of 1863 Memorial Walk/Run

The Bishop Paiute Tribe invites runners and walkers to participate in the annual memorial honoring the Forced March of 1863 to Fort Tejon. The event begins at 5:00 AM on the Fort Independence Indian Community Reservation and concludes at the Lone Pine Paiute/Shoshone Reservation. Participants are needed to help cover the miles and to carry the eagle feather staff, with each feather representing one of the tribal communities in Payahuundu. This is a solemn commemorative event honoring ancestors who endured the forced relocation. The Bishop Paiute Tribe Cultural Center plans to travel down and can provide transportation for those who need it. For questions or transportation arrangements, contact BPT THPO Darren Delgado through the Bishop Paiute Tribe.
